Word Safari is operated by Code & State. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, and how your family can control it. The short version: we collect only what's needed to run a parent account and save your child's progress, we never collect your child's real name, and we never sell information or use it for advertising.

What we collect

To create a parent account, we collect your email address and a password. This lives with our authentication provider, Supabase, hosted in the EU (Frankfurt, region eu-central-1).

For each child profile a parent adds, we store a nickname the parent chooses, an optional birth year, and that child's game progress (which tiers and words they've worked through). If a child types their real name anywhere in the game, that name is stripped out before it ever reaches our servers. Only the nickname a parent set up is stored, never the name a child typed.

The game also saves things like sound and text-size preferences directly on your child's own device, in the browser's local storage. That information never leaves the device.

Analytics: anonymous, and easy to opt out of

Word Safari may use privacy-respecting product analytics to understand which subjects and features families actually use, and whether the free demo and sign-up steps are working, things like "a round finished," "a subject was picked," or "the sign-up form was reached." These events are tied only to a random code generated on the device, never to your child's name, your email, or anything they typed or answered. There is no session recording, no tracking across other sites, and none of it is shared with an advertiser. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal, none of this is sent at all.

No ads shown, ever

Word Safari never shows advertising, in the game or anywhere a child sees it, and we never sell your information or your child's information to anyone, for any reason.

If you arrive from one of our own ads (for example, on Facebook or Instagram), the landing page may ask whether we can use a small measurement cookie to see whether that ad actually worked. It only ever runs if you tap "Accept," it never runs anywhere a child plays, and it never carries your child's name, activity, or anything they typed or answered. Tap "Essential only," or simply don't answer, and none of it loads.

Built with a child's privacy in mind

Only a parent, signed in with their own email and password, can create or manage a child's profile. A child can never sign up on their own, and we never collect anything directly from a child beyond what a parent sets up for them: a nickname, an optional birth year, and gameplay progress. We built Word Safari with the spirit of the US children's privacy law (COPPA) and Europe's extra protections for children's data in mind, though we are not a certified COPPA Safe Harbor participant.

Who we work with

We don't sell your information. We don't share it with anyone except the few services below that help us run Word Safari, and, only if you say it's OK on the landing page's cookie banner, a small, anonymous ad-measurement signal to see whether one of our own ads worked.

How long we keep things

We keep your account and your family's progress for as long as your account exists, so switching devices never means losing progress. If you ask us to delete your account, everything tied to it, your kids' profiles and their progress, is deleted.

Your rights, and deleting your data

You can ask to see, correct, or delete any information we hold about your family at any time. Email hello@wordsafari.app and we'll take care of it, normally within a few days and always within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. We won't make it less protective of your family without telling you first.
