Word Safari's English content runs the full ladder, ending at Tier 7, Cambridge Primary Stage 6, roughly Year 6, with vocabulary that deliberately reaches into Grade 6.
This is the honest ceiling, not a rounded-up one: Tier 7 is the top of the 7-tier ladder, and it is where the vocabulary stretches past Grade 5 into Grade 6 territory.
What the top of the ladder actually contains
At Tier 7, Word Safari draws on the top of its 1,347-word bank and its most advanced decodable stories from the 36-story set: vocabulary a 10 or 11 year old is genuinely ready for, not padded-out beginner content relabelled as advanced.
The game modes at this level, among the app's 12, lean toward vocabulary and spelling challenge rather than picture-matching, built for a reader who is already comfortable, not one just meeting their first sounds.
Word Safari also supports German and Russian, each with its own 150-word starter pack and its own placement and level tracked separately per child, in case an older reader in the house is picking up a second language alongside English.
Why placement matters most at this age
Dropping a 10 or 11 year old into beginner content is the fastest way to lose their interest. This matters more the older a child is, simply because the gap between "just met this sound" and "reads fluently already" is much wider by 10 or 11 than it was at 5 or 6. What this is, and what it isn't
It's worth being direct about scope. Word Safari is a phonics, vocabulary and decodable-reading app. It is not a full literature curriculum, and it does not teach comprehension strategies for novels or set texts the way a dedicated English literature course would. What it does do, all the way through Tier 7, is make sure the words and sounds under a story are genuinely mastered, one tier at a time.

Will my child get placed in baby-level content?
No. Placement looks for where your child actually reads and lands them there, not at the bottom of the ladder by default. For a 10 or 11 year old, that usually means starting well up the tier system, not at Tier 1.
Does it go beyond Grade 5?
Tier 7 vocabulary deliberately reaches into Grade 6 territory. That is the honest ceiling of the English track today; Word Safari does not claim to cover content beyond that.
